Mrs. Vela has been working since 1977 in real estate management
and investments, including programs with HUD, The Community Development of
Los Angeles and FHA subsidies for first time buyers. She is
working also with
financial institutions to provide better housing opportunities, credit
counseling and training for the Hispanic communities in California.
She also has been working on financing and rehabilitation rental properties for 203k loans. She is certified by HUD to participate in the Single Family Properties program to Purchase, rehabilitate and transfer low and moderate-income housing.
Mrs. Vela also is working with general relief recipients for better housing and affordable rental, Landlord-Tenant Mediation and resolution, real estate legal defense, property transfer processing, involving Civil, Criminal and Tax cases with attorneys and Spanish translation.
She worked for several nonprofit organization like El Rosario Community Center, Centro del Pueblo and Hispanic Center for Computer Literacy Action among others, teaching English/Spanish, Computer Classes, Youth at Risk programs, Cultural and Children events and support services. Besides the real estate and charitable work performed, she have assisted in organizing and supporting several trade shows, business round tables meetings, conferences and commercial mission for the Central American community in California and in the Central American region.
Mrs. Vela has been educated in West L. A. business and Real Estate College, Lamlaw Real Estate School and she has extensive knowledge in computer Hardware, Software and Internet web hosting services.
At present Maria Luisa is the Executive Secretary of Central American Relief Foundation, Executive Secretary for Central American Chambers of Commerce, Secretary of California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce and Director of Alameda Merchants Alliance, an institution dedicated to train and educate Hispanic small business owner on requirements and qualifications for government contracting and SBA loan programs.
